Double J Farms has been
in the cattle business for 30 plus years, mostly raising full size Black Brangus at our
ranch location a few miles Northwest of Fort Worth, Texas.
Due to personal health problems it was suggested that we sell our Brangus
seedstock in the fall of 2004 and look for something less labor-intensive. That's when we
discovered the excellent characteristics of the Lowline Angus breed, and our son
Jay decided to join us in the new venture.
We started looking for the best available animals our budget would support, keeping in
mind quality as our main focus. After a lot of research we purchased a few very good
animals from some very nice people. We will be putting the same effort into the Lowlines as we did our Brangus,
to try and make each and every generation of calves a little better than their parents.
-
We
chose to raise and breed Lowline cattle due
to their diversified usages, docility, ease
of calving (40-50 lbs at birth), feed
efficiency, and ability to gain weight and
finish earlier than larger cattle with very
little cost. Their conformation. pet-like
tameness and small size has allowed us to
raise cattle once more that we were
physically unable to do with larger animals.
Lowline cattle are perfect for small
acreages with no need for expensive
equipment. If you have ever raised full size
cattle you know how hard they are on fences,
and these animals have stopped 99% of our
repair time.
-
Australian Lowlines are essentially
'miniature' Angus cattle that resulted from
a 30 year research project conducted by the
New South Wales State Department of
Agriculture at their Agricultural Research
Center located at Trangie, Australia.

The
future is going back to the "olden" days
where cattle were shorter but with just as
much proportionate muscle and beefiness and
with less wasted bone. Lowlines are
exceptional where ribeye and beef yield are
the goal.
It is our goal to strive to offer the best genetics and conditioned cattle
possible. We are also hoping to be 100% organic very soon. We feel grass fed/organic beef
is the way of the future.
Visitors are always welcome, but we would appreciate an advance call.
